I often refer to my childhood as having been charmed. A good deal of that charm comes from my beloved family, but there were also outside forces at work.
As a member of Gen X, I grew up with outstanding children’s television programming. Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, The Electric Company, Villa Alegre still run in the projector room of my memory. But the main attraction on Saturday mornings was School House Rock.
School House Rock wasn’t your ordinary Saturday morning fare. It was designed to teach kids about science, math, history, civics, grammar, and more. But the true genius of it was that every topic was set to music. To this day, if I hear someone say there are three of something, I immediately sing, “Three is a magic number.” It’s also an easy way to find out if someone is my age, because as the kids say, IYKYK*. Heck, the image at the top of this post may have been enough to get some of you singing.
Therefore, for the third day of our Advent calendar, I’ll hand it over to School House Rock:
*IYKYK = if you know, you know
